ALBUM ART CRUSH | Father John Misty, "Fear Fun"

It's probably true that J. Tillman (otherwise known as Father John Misty) got alot more recognition for "I Love You, Honeybear", his excellent sophomore album, but his more underrated debut "Fear Fun" is a great work in itself as well. And oh, look at that album cover!

Created by artist Dimitri Drjuchin, the colours of the artwork is the first thing that jumps out at me. At once bright, attractive and oddly soothing as well, the work feels fun yet there's something not quite right going on here, which complements the music of Tillman's just as well: colourful, light-hearted and playful, with a dark, twisted undertone. To me, you could also see the visual references the art makes to the music and lyrics of certain songs of the album; it sort of feels like a treasure hunt of sorts.

Designed by Jeff Kleinsmith and Sasha Barr, inside, the packaging of the vinyl, CD and cassette continues to play on the colours and themes of the art and music. "Fear Fun" is certainly an interesting work to look at and listen to at the same time!

Included is a fold-out lyrics sheet as well (with a cheeky J. Tillman photo on the side)
