ALBUM ART CRUSH | Purity Ring, "Shrines"

"Shrines" is a release in 2012 by the electronic duo Purity Ring. For the cover and gatefold design, the band enlisted the help of their Canadian compatriot - artist and illustrator Tallulah Fontaine.

The lungs overhead was a direct prompt from one of the album's songs, "Fireshrine"

The result is an almost child-like feel but against the black background, holds something darker and more sinister. I think that that's a wonderful comparison to the music that Purity Ring makes: the music is dark, swirling and sometimes in loops, but the processed vocals of Megan James comes across as child-like and ghostly.

The fact that the LP sleeves is a glorious pastel green helps with this contrast as well.

I hope you like "Shrines" as I do, both visually as much as it is musically!
Till next time,
Yolande
