ALBUM ART CRUSH | Dye, "Cocktail Citron"

"Cocktail Citron" is the 2014 album by eclectic electronic French musician Juan de Guillebon, better known as DyE. I guess the album cover really lends it visual to "citron" in its title - look at that mouth-watering yellow of a plexiglass!

Designed by Marc Armand (who goes by the moniker Tu Sais Qui, or French for "Who Are You") with front cover photography by Jack Fisher, the design of the album was based on the look of the manga Dragonball Z, with its distinct speech and action bubbles. On the cover, the manga's influence continues on to the artist's name and album title, where they given Japanese-stylised typefaces.

Throughout the design, the brights of the pink and yellow ooze character while still sitting back for the black and white illustrations to shine.

ALBUM ART CRUSH | Father John Misty, "Fear Fun"

It's probably true that J. Tillman (otherwise known as Father John Misty) got alot more recognition for "I Love You, Honeybear", his excellent sophomore album, but his more underrated debut "Fear Fun" is a great work in itself as well. And oh, look at that album cover!

ART & DESIGN | cut/improve/paste: Dan Whitford of Cut Copy

As a person that loves both music and art, I get a little bit excited when I realise that the same people that make music also make their own artwork for their albums. One of them is Dan Whitford, from one of my favourite electronic bands, Cut Copy.

MUSIC | on rotation: June - July 2016

Having a holiday job can be really a drag sometimes but having some tunes to accompany you as you work is really a saving grace. (In essence, having work also means super-long playlists for days...) Along with new releases, I've been revisiting a handful of older albums these two months.

ALBUM ART CRUSH | Everything Everything, "Get to Heaven"

"Get to Heaven" is the third studio album by UK art-rock band Everything Everything, released in 2015. This album certainly doesn't pull any punches sonically and visually, and makes a real impression with the cover art (and explosive opening track "To the Blade").

Designed by the Melbourne-based UNA Studio in collaboration with Adault Art Club and the band, the art for the entire album is attention-grabbing and agressive, with the use of bright colours and surreal, vivid illustrations by Andrew Archer. The cover art is inspired by religious iconography and faith healing, according to frontman Johnathan Higgs.

MUSIC | on rotation: May 2016

I'm typing this up just 3 weeks into May because I'm so excited about music releases this month! But of course, work commitments and all means this is a late post once again. In any case, May feels like a bumper month this year with highly-anticipated releases and surprise drops.
